| Criteria |
• Applicant(s) must be at least 25 years old. • In joint applications, applicants must be married or have lived in a common law relationship for one year. • Applicant(s) must be separated or divorced from their spouse or partner for at least one year. • Applicant(s) must wait at least six months following the birth of the child and the finalization of the adoption of a child. • Applicant(s) must wait at least six months following the death of a member of their nuclear family. • Applicant(s) must have a current residence and offer commitment to provide appropriate furnishings that would accommodate the placement of the foster child in their home. • Applicant(s) who have serious physical, emotional, or mental health problems that would interfere with their capacity to foster a child, would not be considered. • Applicant(s) must be able to offer sufficient time to the child and to the fulfillment of the responsibilities of a foster parent. • When a history of excessive or problematic use of drugs or alcohol is revealed, the applicant(s) must be drug or alcohol free for at least the proceeding 2 years. • Applicant(s) must not have any criminal convictions of sexual abuse or assault, molestation, or physical abuse or assault toward another child or another person. • Applicant(s) must not be currently involved as a child protection client of the Society. • Applicant(s) who have had past child protection involvements with the Society would not be considered if such involvement raises concern of a significant nature.
